We all know games like Nintendogs and the Petz series for the DS but what about what came before? The Old-School Petz games let you breed, dress up, train, show, and trade your pets with other users. Nick and Tess, who created and run Chicken Smoothie, were both heavily involved in the Petz communities before starting CS and many of the programs that Nick made are still in use by Petz members today! Despite being over 21 years old the Petz games have aged very well and still have a thriving community standing behind it today.
Basic Gameplay Overview

The Petz4 game comes with 20 breeds of cats and dogs to choose from. You can adopt as many as you want at a time but if you don't give them ample attention they will run away and you won't be able to play with them anymore. After your petz are grown you can even breed them to create new unique mixed breeds! There are hundreds of unique combinations you can make by breeding your cats and dogs together. Above you can see just a few of the offspring of mixed breeds. All petz have unique personalities. Friendly Calicos, easy to pose Dalmatians, Ditzy Sheepdogs, Angry Alley cats and much more. Through the power of genetics it's possible for these traits to pass randomly onto offspring. In addition to the many combinations you can make with the breeds that came with the game there are hundreds of breeds you can download online. You can even make your own unique petz called 'Hexies'. Want a look alike of your dog at home or a pixel pigeon you can play with? All of that is possible. Even if you aren't a talented hexer there are many people out there that are willing to hex a creature to your specifications. A few examples of what a hexed pet looks like can be seen below.
Apart from breeding there are many more thing you can do with your virtual pet. Playing with hundreds of toys, visiting multiple areas, teaching them tricks and dressing them up in countless outfits are all part of what make the game so much fun. You can even enter your dogs and cats in various online obedience, tracking, agility and shutzhund shows for points and prizes. If that's not your cup of tea you can also teach your petz to pose and enter them in pose shows. The online petz community is a large part of what makes the game so much fun though! Trade bred pets with other people, take part in community events or hex a totally unique creatures. With the ability to create countless new and unique toys, clothes items, playscenes and breeds your imagination is truly the limit when it comes to the Petz Games.

The Petz series has lots of game versions available but the most universally used is Petz4 as it allows the animals adopted in this game to be used across all version. Unfortunately Petz4 is not longer available to buy anywhere. Luckily the creator of the game, Ubisoft, made a patch that made the demo version of the game into a free real version of the game so everyone would be able to enjoy it.
Q. Is this Download legal?
A.Yes. When Ubisoft created the patch that allowed the free Demo Version of the game to be made into the Full version they were well aware of it doing so. This is 100% legal and the creators of the game know about this.
Q. I'm not too sure about downloading something off the Internet...
A. The downloads I have linked to has been scanned for viruses and malware and was repackaged and uploaded by me to prevent anyone potentially running into a virus issue when downloading the file from other sites such as Cnet (Who also hosts the download)
Q. Is it still possible to buy this game?
A. Yes! Many online stores such as Amazon and Ebay carry copies of of the Petz games for you to buy

Do not under and circumstances install into your “My Programs” folder. Most newer computers will not run the game correctly when installed in that location.

This addon will patch your demo and allow you to play no matter if you are running Windows8, 9, 10 or above. Just be sure to never enable PetA profiles in the PetzA options tab if you are running Windows10 or above as this will cause your game to become corrupt and you will have to reinstall.
